Your tattoo has been done under clean, .
Now it's up to you to take proper care of it. The chance of any infection or damage to your new tattoo is minimal if aftercare instructions are followed correctly. Most problems or irritations occur from:
  • Scratching or itching a new tattoo.
  • Tanning or swimming before your tattoo is healed.
  • Using inappropriate amounts or types of aftercare products.

You must take care not to agitate or abuse any unhealed tattoo. Your tattoo may be bandaged upon completion due to location. It is important to not pull off any bandage too quickly, gently wet any applied bandage and gently pull off so as not to damage any scabs or dried matter which may have accumulated. Once you have removed the bandage wash your new tattoo in cool soapy water and rinse. The proper after care product is also very important in the way your tattoo looks when healed. You don't want to use any products that may damage inks, or your skin. Some acceptable aftercare products are:

  • Vitamin A D ointment.
  • Bagbalm.
  • Specialty tattoo products such as Tattoo Goo (consult your tattoo artist first).
  • Mild Medicated ointments such as Bacitracin.

Talk to your tattoo artist to find out which product will work best on your tattoo. Most of the above mentioned products can be found in your local pharmacy. It is important to not use any harsh products that may damage your tattoo or impede your body's natural healing ability.

  • Do not use Vaseline or other petroleum jellies.
  • Do not use heavily medicated antibiotic ointments such as Neosporin.
  • Do not use iodine, peroxide, or alcohol based products.

How do I clean my tattoo?
To clean your new tattoo start by washing or wiping away any old ointment. Be careful to not damage your new tattoo when wiping. Remember to NEVER PICK ANY SCABS that may form as this will damage the ink or tattooed skin. After you have washed away any old ointment apply a thin layer of fresh ointment and massage it into the tattoo, not too much ointment, only enough to make the skin shiny. Apply new ointment 3-5 times daily or as needed for the first 5 days. If after 5 days if your tattoo is excessively dry or crusty apply a gentle moisturizer as needed until healed. Do not use any moisturizers with heavy perfumes or other irritants. It is best to use a moisturizer with aloe or vitamin E as this will help heal damaged skin, regularly moisturizing a tattoo helps to keep the skin soft and the colors bright. Also, the sun can irreversibly damage even a well healed tattoo so remember to use a good sun block with a strong SPF when spending long amounts of time in the sun or outdoors.
