Precision Body Arts Scarification Aftercare Suggestions Your scarification has been done under clean, professional conditions.
The amount of scarring depends greatly on how you care for the piece. If you clean the piece regularly without irritating the area the results may be less than if you were to agitate the piece. Below are some different methods for care and agitation. YOUR RESULTS WILL VARY GREATLY ON HOW YOU CARE FOR YOUR PIECE; NO GUARANTEE IS MADE ABOUT YOUR LEVEL OF SCARRING. Cleaning of Scarification: Your piece may be bandaged upon completion due to location. Carefully remove the bandage after four to six hours and wash with cool water and soap, then rinse and pat dry. You will need to clean your piece two or three times daily for the first 4-6 weeks to disinfect the area. You can do this easily in the shower by using an antimicrobial soap such as Satin, or a more readily available antibacterial soap such as Dial. Make sure to keep the area around your piece clean as well and be sure to wash your hands before touching a piece. It is very important to keep your piece clean especially after agitation to prevent infection. Healing time varies greatly depending on scarification type and location. The initial healing time of a scarification piece should take between six and eight weeks, while the final scar result may take several months to fully develop. Once the procedure is completed it is solely your responsibility to clean and, if you choose, to agitate your piece. Agitation of Scarification: The amount of scarring in a piece depends largely on how you care for your new scarification. Agitation of a piece can be used to build up larger amounts of scar tissue if desired. You should avoid agitation of the area for the first few days to allow the area to begin healing and form a scab. The most common method of agitation is to simply pick at any scabs which may form. Another method is to rub the area with a clean, new soft toothbrush dipped in hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol (isopropyl 70% by volume), this method can also be used after scabs have been picked away for increased deep agitation. It is crucial not to over pick or be too rough as this may cause uneven scarring and ruin fine detail, if you agitate the area to the point that it bleeds excessively you are being too rough. Your piece should be through the initial healing period in roughly six to eight weeks, but it may be a few months before the final result is achieved.
