Q: What kind of body jewelry do you carry and/or pierce with?
A: We have many styles of jewelry at PBA. For initial piercings we primarily pierce with threadless titanium jewelry from Neometal, along with internally threaded titanium jewelry from companies like Wildcat, Intrinsic, and Industrial Strength. We also use a limited selection of 316LVM steel body jewelry.
We have hundreds of glass plugs from Glasswear Studios and Gorilla Glass perfect for stretching or large gauge piercing. Organic jewelry from Maya, and Tawapa. Silicone plugs from Kaos softwear. Gold jewelry from Body Vision. As well as many other options for Initial, healed, and stretched piercings.
Q: Can I bring in my own jewelry to be pierced with?
A: We strongly prefer to pierce with jewelry which has been ordered, handled, inspected, and sterilized by our own staff. We typically do not pierce with outside jewelry to avoid complications which commonly stem from poor quality jewelry. If you have a piece of jewelry you would like to have installed whether in a new or healed piercing please stop by for Ryan to inspect and approve of the piece beforehand.
Q: What types of sterilizers do you use? How do you monitor them?
A: We currently use a Midmark M7 steam autoclave and a SciCan Statim 2000 sterilizer. New Hampshire law requires only quarterly testing but we run weekly spore tests on our statim and bi-weekly spore tests on our autoclave. We use a company called NorthBay Bioscience for our testing, we have never failed a test and have records for the past 8 years available on-site for anyone who wishes to see them.
Q: How do you sterilize your needles and equipment?
A: All needles used by Precision Body Arts are single use needles, used on one individual in one sitting, then disposed of in a medical waste container. Tattoo needles are purchased pre-sterilized from tattoo suppliers and come to us in sealed packages with a sterilization monitor on the package itself. Piercing needles are purchased from a piercing supplier, arrive to us in new unused condition, then are individually packaged and processed in either our autoclave or statim sterilizers. All other equipment including tattoo grips, piercing forceps, and other implements pass through a multiple stage process after each use. They first go into a chemical soak for several hours, then are rinsed and run through an ultrasonic cleaner to remove debris, they are then rinsed again and dried, then are repackaged and run through our sterilizers to return to sterile ready-to-use condition. We use sterilization integrators and a log book with each sterilizer cycle, in conjunction with regular spore tests, to ensure that our equipment is maintained at the highest level of sterilization for your safety. Our sterilization and spore test logs are available for viewing at any time on request.
Q: How do I go about having a tattoo drawn?
A: Stop into the shop for a consultation to have a design drawn out. Feel free to you an estimate on how long the tattoo will take to design, and when we can find a tattoo appointment time that fits your schedule. Some simple designs can be submitted to your preferred artist via email, but in most cases a face to face consultation will expedite the process. Larger or more complex tattoo designs may require an appointment with deposit before work can begin on drawing the design.
Q: How do I book an appointment?
A: Our staff prefers face to face consultations whenever possible, but we also have a limited availability for phone and email appointments, as well as walk-ins. Contact your preferred artist or call the shop to check for availability. Tattoo appointments more than one day in advance require a non-refundable deposit (subtracted from tattoo price), some longer or far off appointments may require larger deposits. For body piercing appointments call the shop during normal operating hours to schedule a time, no deposit required for piercing appointments.
